The high-pressure molding line recently commissioned at AIA’s Ahmedabad foundry is an impressive example of the superior design and outstanding technical performance associated with HANSBERG’s equipment.

Rated at 180 molds/h with flask size 800 x 600 x 250/200 mm, the facility is based on one vertical-loop molding machine. In this type of machine, the cope and drag pattern-plate bolsters travel in sequence first through the pre-fill station, where they mate with the corresponding flask and are partially filled with facing sand, then through the shoot/squeeze/strip station, where the actual mold is made and stripped from the pattern.

On account of the high molding rate and consequent short cycle time (20 s), the facility features a double-step indexing mode option, whereby the pouring line can be indexed every second cycle and two molds are poured simultaneously, thus doubling the time available for pouring (the flasks stop under the auto-pour furnace for about 30 s as opposed to 15 s). Switching from single to double-step mode and back is automatic and within cycle time.

Regardless on weather the pouring line is operated in single or double-step, on the cooling lines the flasks are always indexed two at a time in double-step mode, so as to extend the time available for flask feeding into the 160-min, two-tier cooling strand.

All major electric actuators, including cooling line flask pusher/receiver and transfer/elevator units feature state-of-the-art, PLC-integrated electric motion controls.
